#JamaicaBID Black History: James FortenJames Forten (September 2, 1766 – March 4, 1842) was an African-American abolitionist and wealthy businessman in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born free in the city, he became a sailmaker after the American Revolutionary War. Following an apprenticeship, he became the foreman and bought the sail loft when his boss retired. Based on equipment he himself had developed, he established a highly profitable business. It was located on the busy waterfront of the Delaware River, in an area now called Penn's Landing. New Neighbor: Chipotle Mexican Grill
The JamaicaBID is excited to announce our newest neighbor: Chipotle Mexican Grill. The casual chain dining restaurant, known for specializing in burritos, tacos, burrito bowls, and salads, opened its doors on Friday, February 2nd. Operating more than 2,350 restaurants, we welcome Chipotle Mexican Grill to Downtown Jamaica in providing the district and the South Queens community with wholesome and convenient food to be enjoyed every day. Chipotle hours of operation will be 10:45am to 10:00pm EVERY DAY.
THE #JAMAICABID IS OVERLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT!
Jamaica Center BID Board President Michael Hirschhorn said, "We are very excited that Chipotle will soon become part of the exciting retail mix along Jamaica Avenue. I believe that adding quality tenants like Chipotle only makes the avenue a better environment to work and live in. Their opening and other major retailers coming to Jamaica Avenue, like TJ Maxx and H&M, only strengthen the idea that strong retail tenants can bring up the value of an entire area by making it a more desirable place to live, work or shop."
Chipotle’s PR and Communications Manager Quinn Kelsey said, "We're always looking for great communities where we can open new restaurants, and the Jamaica Ave business corridor is the perfect fit. The Jamaica Ave location opens us up to a new community and allows us to feed shoppers the wholesome and convenient food they crave! We're excited to be a part of the revitalization effort and to see the Jamaica area return to its status as a commercial hub."
