PRESS RELEASE: The Jamaica BID Awarded $300,000 Commercial Revitalization Grant
The NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) Commissioner Gregg Bishop announced $300,000 in grant funding to the Jamaica Center Business Improvement District (BID) to provide commercial revitalization services to the Jamaica Avenue and surrounding Downtown Jamaica retail corridors.
“We are thrilled to have been awarded this grant, which will enable us to delve in and better understand how we can be most effective in serving our commercial and residential stakeholders,” said Whitney Barrat, Jamaica Center BID’s Executive Director. “We’re so grateful to SBS for their partnership, and to have this opportunity to plan and implement programming that will truly reflect the evolving needs of our community.”

The two-day workshop series offers an overview of application processes in a congenial joyful atmosphere. Guest Panelists: April 28 Nicky Paraiso and May 5, Marietta Ulacia & Andrea Thompson will offer practical training and insight into the process of grant writing from creating a narrative and budgets plus marketing and artist samples so artists can see their creative ideas come to fruition in today’s very competitive creative sector.
The workshops are organized to help artists from all disciplines better understand grant application processes for getting funds for creative projects. We will be using a simple grant application as an example of and what is expected of any artist when applying for funding or approaching a presenter.
This two-part workshop is funded in part by Mertz Gilmore Foundation.
